What kind of Yoga do you teach?
Hello Hello! So this is probably one of the most common questions students ask their yoga teachers: "What kind of Yoga do you teach?" One way of thinking about all the Yoga's out there is, in the west very often a devoted student of a "master teacher" comes to America to share what they have learnt from their teacher, their personal practice and life experience. Usually the "style" is named after the master teacher, for example; B.K.S Iyengar, Sivinanda, Osho, and Kripalu are a few names of teachers of well known "yoga styles" (there are many, feel free to share with me your favourites :)) which are actually from a lineage of teachings from one master teacher to the next. Many "famous" teachers in the west had the same teachers back in India. Ashtanga, which is not necessarily the name of the teacher, but is often related to the teacher Shri Phattabi Jois. We also have Kundalini Yoga taught to the west by Yogi Bhajan, and hot yoga , which often Vinyasa Yoga (flowing practice) practiced in a heated room. We have many teachers from 18th and 19th century like Vivekananda, Krishnamurti, Yogananda, and Ramana Maharshi who often came to speak in the west about the various forms of Yoga, including mind mastery, ancient scripture and philosophy. After studying and practicing yoga/meditation, body work and energy work for the last 20 years, what I’ve observed is all yoga styles have in common some of the following components: - Physical Reality - Mind - Energy - Love - Wisdom - Life So that’s why I enjoy teaching students and training teachers from the lens of the Sanskrit word called "Kosha" or we can say the "layers of the human being (as outlined above). Since Kosha Yoga can offer practitioner an opportunity to experience essential aspects of themselves that maybe they have not noticed before :) Here is a little video outlining my upcoming "Kosha Yoga Teacher Training" approach I plan to put out more "Yoga Education" / "Mini Trainings" videos to help new teachers or those thinking about teaching yoga on topics related to; - The essentials of teaching yoga, - Magic of the mind, - Starting your yoga teaching career. The trainings will bring clarity to concepts that can be considered fundamental when it comes to yoga and teaching yoga. I may not know "everything" but one of my many teachers taught me; - Always to teach those who may be a little or a lot behind you - Collaborate with those who are "with you" - Learn from those way ahead of you So from all my dedicated study and practice, I’m excited to share with you, in hopes that maybe in a small or big way it affects your life and those around you in a transformative way. So here's to intention for 2019!!! Here's the video Feel to reach out if you have any questions about Kosha Yoga, YogaTherapy, Teacher Training, Prenatal & Postnatal Trainings, Yoga Therapy Coaching calls, or even just to say hi if we haven't spoken in a long time :) With Love, Jayme ps. also if you have video you would like me to create about YogaMeditation/Mindset, Teaching Yoga, feel free to email me and let me know!
